How should I prepare for my first waxing?
The most important thing is to make sure your hair is long enough for the wax to adhere so it can be pulled up easily. Typically we need about 3.5 weeks of growth since your last shaving or trimming. Don’t trim your hair, the esthetician will address that if needed. Wear loose clothing to your appointment so you can avoid friction to those freshly waxed areas. You will want to shower no sooner than 2 hours to make sure your skin is not holding onto any moisture. Any pain felt is momentary the second those hairs are pulled. With your first waxing you may feel awkward, nervous and perhaps uncomfortable. You will have a chance to address any concerns with the esthetician before the procedure. When you book an appointment with a wax specialist, you are seeing someone who has years of experience. Their expert techniques will help to minimize pain and lessen chances of tearing or lifting of skin. You want your first experience to be flawless so you leave hair free and smooth. You will want to go over any medications or illnesses that would affect the skin such as blood thinners or antibiotics. They should be guiding you and explaining the process to help lessen any anxieties or anticipations. The first waxing is the most uncomfortable since you have never experienced the process and the sensations. One you get past the waxing portion and onto the detailing and soothing of your waxed areas, you will become much more relaxed. A light coating of oil will be applied to help condition the skin prior to applying the wax, this helps to protect your skin. You may want to purchase the professional transdermal healing cream (sold by the esthetician) to be used for the first 3 days. It helps to hydrate, reduce redness and any bumps. Purchasing a good hydrating body lotion and a good exfoliating salt and oil body scrub will help with post care between waxing appointments. Waxing is a maintenance and you will no longer shave or trim. It is recommended to wax every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure best results when hairs are thinner and shorter. This also minimizes pain and irritation as your skin gets used to the process.
